About 829 million people (1 in 10 people globally) are undernourished (lacking protein and/or calories).

Even though farms produce more than enough food crops to feed the world, too many of these crops are used inefficiently...

as animal feed (farm animals eat more food than they produce)
as biofuel (burned for energy - this is not a scalable alternative to fossil fuels)
and in food that goes to waste (or spoils due to improper storage)

As a result, there isn't enough to go around (globally).
