Health care/USA

Problems - general

The US health care system is neither a free market nor a socialized system, but has all the worst characteristics of both. Unlike most other developed countries, US health care is mostly "privatized" in the sense that individuals have to pay for health care directly, or indirectly through health insurance. However, this is far from being a "free market". A handful of companies have a monopoly due to exploiting corrupt government regulations and patent laws. This keeps health care prices outrageously high - some of the highest in the world. [EXAMPLE needed]

Solutions - approaches

Incremental reform?

Radical overhaul?

Ideas needed: If politics didn't get in the way, how could the US health care system be completely redesigned for the better? What aspects of other countries' health care systems would be worth imitating? Obviously there are many ways this could be done, so it's worth creating multiple subpages (to be linked here), each for a different blueprint. [new page needed]
