Redirect unwanted food from businesses
In developed countries, businesses waste an extreme amount of food - far more than what it would take to feed all the local poor people.
What could be done with all the food that businesses currently waste?
- Donate it to local food banks and homeless shelters (until their food supply is "saturated").
- Offer it for free/cheap to everyone & anyone in the neighborhood.
- This would of course be seen as "competition" against the businesses that wasted the food in the first place. To overcome their resistance, we might need to...
- Make it illegal for businesses to waste food
- Hand out the food at some location that's fairly far away from the business
- This would of course be seen as "competition" against the businesses that wasted the food in the first place. To overcome their resistance, we might need to...
- Convert the food into some sort of shelf-stable food product to be shipped overseas as food aid.
